Animated Gif Maker

Animated GIF Maker free online tool for fast results

With the online GIF maker on gifgit.com, you can quickly and easily create your animated GIFs for free, with no software to download. Simply upload any combination of PNG, JPG, BMP or GIF files. The files will be loaded in the timeline as frames for your new animated GIF. You can re-arrange frames by using drag and drop, duplicate them or uncheck them to drop them from the timeline.

How do I load files for my GIF?

Use the "Choose Files" button to open files from your computer. You can select multiple images and types. All files will be added to the timeline as a frame.
Image files such as JPG, BMP and PNG will be loaded as a single frame with a default delay of 80ms (12fps). For animated GIF files with multiple frames, a frame will be added to the timeline for each image frame in the GIF. The delay for each frame in the animated GIF will also be loaded in the timeline as well.

Editing the GIF Timeline

Edit the GIF timeline by moving frames. Drag and drop frames to rearrange the order of frames in the timeline. You can duplicate frames and you can edit the delay for each frame. Increasing the delay causes the frame to pause longer and consequently increases the duration of the GIF animation.
You can disable a frame from showing up in the final GIF animation by clicking the checkbox in the frame. To enable or disable a range of frames you can use the drop dropdown menu in the timeline header controls.

📌 Pro Tip for GIF Creators

For the best results, ensure all the images you upload have the exact same dimensions (width and height). If you upload images of varying sizes, the GIF maker will usually scale or crop them to match the first frame, which can result in unexpected stretching. Use an image resizer tool first if your source files don't match!

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

What is an animated GIF?

The Graphics Interchange Format (GIF) is a bitmap image format that supports animations. It works like a digital flipbook — it stores multiple image frames in a single file and displays them sequentially at a specified speed to create the illusion of motion.

Is there a limit to how many images I can upload?

While our free GIF maker does not have a strict hard coded limit, we recommend keeping animations under 50 frames. Creating a GIF with hundreds of high-resolution images can result in a massive file size that will load slowly on websites and may struggle to process in your browser.

Why is my GIF file size so large?

GIFs are an older, uncompressed format and can quickly become very large. To reduce file size, try lowering the total number of frames, reducing the resolution/dimensions of your source images, or using fewer colors. For massive animations, modern formats like MP4 or WebP are often more efficient.

Can I change the speed of the animation?

Yes! You can adjust the "frame delay" — the amount of time each image stays on screen before transitioning to the next. Lowering the delay time makes the GIF play faster, while increasing it creates a slower, slideshow-like effect.

Are my images saved on your website?

No. Our online GIF creator processes the images completely locally in your web browser. Your personal photos are never uploaded to our servers, ensuring 100% privacy and security for your content.
