A Timeline of Pixel Art

Pixel art has a rich history — from the earliest arcade cabinets and the 8-bit console era, through the game-boy and 16-bit generations, to the modern indie revival. Tools like this one are part of a broader tradition: the community has methodically documented the evolution of pixel art technique, from its origins in computer graphics through to contemporary artists who keep the style alive today.

How It Works

1. Pick a grid size from the slider.
2. Choose a tool and a color from the palette.
3. Draw, fill, or erase on the canvas.
4. Download your sprite as a PNG at native resolution.
